This booklet, prepared by thyroid cancer survivors, is intended as a guide for those diagnosed with the disease. It is written from the patient's point of view and is a compilation of articles and e-mail postings written by various members of the Canadian Thyroid Cancer Support Group (Thry'vors) Inc. It will complement the medical information you will receive through your physician and other resources, and provide you with practical tips and questions to ask your physician. The booklet was reviewed by our medical advisory panel.

The Low Iodine Diet (LID) is prescribed for thyroid cancer patients who will receive treatment or scanning doses of radioactive iodine. In order to standardize the LID, Thry'vors has undertaken extensive research to develop our version of the diet. We did so with the help of experts including several Registered Dietitians who extensively reviewed the literature. Our writing team included members of Thry'vors, ThyCa, London Health Sciences Centre and Hamilton Health Sciences. It was reviewed by our own Medical Advisory Panel members (http://www.thryvors.org/AboutThryvors.html). And finally, it was edited and reviewed by a group of 10 patients and 13 doctors/RDs from across Canada.

Thry'vors has put together four DVDs containing lectures on various aspects of thryoid cancer given by medical professionals and survivors, as well as TV appearances and PowerPoint presentations about thyroid cancer. Members of this organization are featured in some segments. These DVDs can be ordered for a minimal fee.
