This booklet, prepared by thyroid cancer survivors, is intended as a guide for those diagnosed with the disease. It is written from the patient's point of view and is a compilation of articles and e-mail postings written by various members of the Canadian Thyroid Cancer Support Group (Thry'vors) Inc. It will complement the medical information you will receive through your physician and other resources, and provide you with practical tips and questions to ask your physician. The booklet was reviewed by our medical advisory panel.

Information on a Low Iodine Diet

NEW! Thry'vors has prepared several new resources to provide you with more information about a Low Iodine Diet (LID).The Low Iodine Diet (LID) is prescribed for thyroid cancer patients who will receive treatment or scanning doses of radioactive iodine. These include a version of the diet, a FAQ about the diet, and brief guide to following the diet in Canada.

The Needs of Canadian Thyroid Cancer Survivors: Building Knowledge and Understanding Through Social Learning, Wally Patching Memorial Lecture, 2006

Patricia Sharkey, a community planner and founding member of Thry'vors, presented the second Wally Patching Memorial Lecture at the May 28, 2006 Annual General Meeting. The lecture summarizes the needs of Canadian thyroid cancer survivors identified by the Thry'vors 2006 listserv survey. The lecture highlighted the importance of social learning to patient support groups and identifies what individuals can do to contribute to Thry'vors learning and networking.

Thryoid Cancer Recurrence, Wally Patching Memorial Lecture, 2005

In 2004, the Board of Directors announced the creation of the Wally Patching Memorial Lecture to honour one of our most vibrant and determined founding members and to help contribute to his vison of improved Canadian thyroid cancer patient information, support and access to qualified thyroid cancer specialists. The first memorial lecture was given on May 14, 2005 by Dr. Irving B. Rosen. Dr. Rosen gave the lecture on the topic of Thyroid Cancer Recurrence. This guide, written by Dianne Dodd, examines the emotional aspects of dealing with thyroid cancer. The emotional challenges you may experience during different stages of your journey with thyroid cancer are addressed, and coping strategies are discussed. While the guide focuses on the experiences and emotional needs of patients, it also addresses the experiences of family members, friends and caregivers, and offers advice to these important partners in a patient's journey.
